Scripture Memory Song: Isaiah 40:28

Isaiah gives us a healthy view of our God by inspiring awe at his great power, majesty, and understanding.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
Isaiah 40:28 (ESV)

Devotional

I honestly don’t know how much I can say about this verse, though I didn’t say a lot last week either. Let’s start by getting a wee bit of context:

27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
    and speak, O Israel,
“My way is hidden from the Lord,
    and my right is disregarded by my God”?
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
    his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
    and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
    and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:27-31

These verses are not meant simply to inspire awe at the power of God, but also to give hope to those who were feeling abandoned by God. God knows all and sees all, and his will shall be done on this earth, and he promises that he will work all things out for the good of those who love him and bless them (v31, Romans 8:28), and obviously, from these verses, we can see that he definitely has the power and stamina to ensure that his will is done.

He is also far above our understanding, since he lives outside the laws of our universe because he created this universe and its laws. We cannot wrap our heads around something like that because we are limited by these laws whereas God is not. That means he exists no only everywhere, but also every “when”. It’s more than being able to see the future, he is already there! He “currently” exists in all of the past, the present, and all the future. He exists in every minuscule bit of all the 4+ dimensions. Isaiah isn’t using hyperbole in the least when he says “his understanding is unsearchable”.

Just let the truths of God’s power, wisdom, knowledge, and love mull around in your head and your heart this week. It’s honestly not that hard to humble yourself before him once you have even the smallest understanding of who he is.
