Uncertainty In The New Year

I was getting comfortable with Joe having this part-time FedEx job. It was bringing in money, and though it wouldn’t really have been enough to cover our monthly expenses, it would’ve gotten us close. We were hoping that he would be kept on after the Christmas season. They certainly made it sound likely when they hired him. However it isn’t happening. He’s been put on a list, in case a permanent position opens, but he’s been done working there since the Friday before Christmas.

We’re now back to no steady income. In my mind, this job was the perfect set up. I guess God has other plans for us. We both still feel like getting a normal 9-5 job isn’t what we’re supposed be looking for. God has called us to something different – this blog. It is a ministry – to help build others up and strengthen our faith.

It doesn’t feel wise to purposefully not be looking for a job. And I know that many people think we’re being stupid or irresponsible. They don’t say anything in those words, but it is just the feeling I get when they ask about Joe working. And it’s not to say we aren’t looking for ways to make money. We are, just not in the “normal” category.

God has been providing for us in unexpected ways recently, with gift cards from people who don’t know our situation. These monetary gifts were not expected, but they were very appreciated!

Honestly, when I heard that Joe wouldn’t be staying on at FedEx, my heart dropped a bit. Worry started to set in, and doubt set in at the wisdom of our decision. But after having to think about it and talk a bit with Joe, I’m feeling ok. The future is uncertain. How we will make an income is uncertain as well. We will continue blogging, and trust that God has got us covered. He may have some unique opportunities for us in this next year. We’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, I’m going to continue to rest in my God’s loving hands.

Pray that we won’t let worry sink in, and that God would help us to be productive in the things we are looking into this month to provide a living for our family.
