Our Secret to Scripture Memorization as a Family

We started learning scripture memory verses with our boys last year before our little Grape was born, and after his birth I kinda let it slide, as there was a lot going on in our house with a new baby! 🙂 Anyways, we’ve picked the habit back up again, and we try to go over our memory verse for the week every morning at the breakfast table, or at night before they go to bed (or both!).

It’s important to us that we teach our boys God’s word, and help them store it in their hearts, because that is what God has commanded us as parents to do.

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. Deuteronomy 6:5-7

We are in no way perfect in pointing our children to the Lord. But it IS our responsibility to guide their hearts towards Him. So this is one of the ways we have made an effort so that they will have His word on their hearts. Here’s our secret: to help them memorize scripture I have made verses into a song for them to learn and sing along with (because it’s so much easier to learn a song, right?!).

The boys love listening to and learning their new Bible verse songs each week. Not only is it beneficial for them, but it is for us as parents as well because as we teach our boys these songs, we learn the verses as well!

We’re making the verses into little song videos, if you’d like to listen to them on our Youtube channel. We’ve got ten videos up already, and we’ll be adding some new each week as we get them made!
