God will make us holy if we immerse ourselves in His truth.
If you’re new here, each week we all learn about and memorize a Bible verse together. We’ve put the verse(s) into song to help you learn the verse and recall it during your day. If you’d like to see the archives of all the verses we’ve done so far, you can find our posts here and a list of all the YouTube videos here. We’ll also be giving a family update on what has happened in the past week.
Family Update
This last week we thought we were getting better, and were preparing to go on a trip to my parents house to finish up Christmas, which has been postponed twice already. But we got hit again, this time with a stomach bug. Everyone got it. It has been fun. Not really. But we did get lots of snuggle time in because nobody was feeling well.
G has taken over my job of homeschooling his little brothers this week. He’s always so anxious to get to his own homeschooling that he started asking to go through his brothers stuff with them so he could get to his faster, since I can’t always start when he wants me to. He’s getting to be such a big boy, and doing things that require a little responsibility (like the homeschooling, and making oatmeal for breakfast for him and his brothers). I’m so proud of him. 🙂
Scripture Memory Song
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
John 17:17 (ESV)
Devotional
Sanctify: to set apart as or declare holy; consecrate; purify.
Jesus is praying for all believers in this chapter. He’s asking that we would be kept from the evil one, and then he asks that we would be sanctified in the truth. Jesus says that he has consecrated himself so that we may be sanctified. He’s left us an example to follow in his life. He immersed himself in the truth, what was written in God’s word. That is his prayer for us, that we would be changed through God’s truth. The scriptures are truth, God’s word, written down for us so that we may know God better.
As we immerse ourselves in truth, our thoughts and attitudes will change. We won’t conform to the world’s ideas and standards, but will be set apart from the world for holy service to God. God’s word transforms us to be more like Christ.
I’m so thankful to know that Jesus Christ our Lord knows the struggle it is for us to live apart from the world, and prayed for us while he was still here on earth! He is our intercessor before God, and it’s already shown in this beautiful prayer for us, that we would be purified in the truth.
