A Baby On the Cross?

Have you ever thought of the baby Jesus being put on that cross?

Hanging up in my house is a small hand-made ornament. It was made by one of my boys in church. It’s a cross made of popsicle sticks that has a heart with “John 3:16” written on it, and the image of a baby under the heart.

I remember thinking about that when I first saw it. A baby on a cross? It seems a bit crazy, but that’s exactly what the verse is saying: God sent his son, as a baby. And from the very beginning he was sent to reconcile the world to himself on the cross.

That same baby Jesus, whose birth we celebrate at Christmas time, is the same one who died on the cross in our place 33 years later.

This is the meaning of Christmas –

God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17

As Christmas gets closer, let us remember the love our heavenly Father has for us – so much that he sent his one and only son to redeem us for himself. <3
