How often do you dive into the Bible? I try to read every morning, or at least on weekdays, but is it enough? I don’t tend to feel God’s presence or prodding much when I read His Word, but then again, why should I? What’s so special about the Bible that I should expect something more while reading it?
Well, I’ll tell you:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 1:1-4 (ESV)
And Also:
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV)
The Bible is God’s Word, which is breathed out by God and actually is Christ! God’s Word isn’t just a bunch of words written on a page; they are God, they express His identity, they have a purpose. Those Words are alive because they are Christ and are His breath. And we all know what God’s breath does:
then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
Genesis 2:7 (ESV)
God’s breath gives life. Plain and simple. Do you feel spiritual deadness, or even feel physically near death? Read God’s Word, but don’t just read it, spend quality time diving in and getting to know God through it. Saying “hi” to a stranger doesn’t mean you’ve gotten to know him, neither does partially listening to him tell a story about his life. Treat God’s Word like a person you’re trying to build a relationship with, because that’s exactly what you should be doing when you read the Bible. Prayer and reading the Bible are God’s two primary means of growing in relationship to God and receiving His life-giving power.
