Home Life Update – December 2016

We have been wondering what to do about money. Because while we feel called to keep working on this blog, it’s not making enough money to support us, and that probably won’t change much any time soon. So we decided to have Joe start looking for a part time job. I found a FedEx one and he applied right away. He’s been hired in a seasonal position for now. We’re hoping that they’ll keep him on after the season is over. Please pray with us for that! This job has altered our schedule quite a bit! His shift is generally from 4am-8am, which means we’re getting up at 2:30am and going to bed with the boys at 7pm most days! I’m doing the schedule with him because I like going to bed at the same time, and I’m way more productive in the morning than I am at night. 😉

This is also my first official year of homeschooling. We’re actually going through a virtual school, which has helped me in that I’m not completely overwhelmed since I’m not on my own! The requirements for a Kindergartner are pretty easy, and G loves doing the online games for his classes. I’m trying to go above and beyond those requirements. I was doing pretty well at doing a book from Five in a Row with him for a while, but have been getting a little out of our rhythm and I haven’t done a book in a few weeks with him. We also were doing scripture memory, and while we still are trying to, I’m having a hard time remembering to actually go over it with them enough for them to remember the verses! I need to work on that!

G is such an avid reader, it amazes me over and over when he comes up to me and starts asking about random words he’s reading off of boxes and billboards! He seems to love new words as well. Joe used the word ‘bulbous’ the other day, and G has been using it each day since!

At the moment I’m not working much with any of the others, but K is watching everything G does, so I’m sure he’s absorbing a ton! My little Z is in a word learning stage, asking “what dat?” about pretty much everything!

Finally, little E is growing up so fast! He just started taking a step or two a few weeks ago and now he’s up to 5 steps, not to mention growing out of all his clothes!

Getting Back to “Normal”

I’m glad this year is an easy one for requirements, because it’s been much busier than normal – watching my nephews 2-3 days a week. It increased in the last month from 1-2 days, which is partially why we lost our rhythm with Five in a Row and scripture memory. I’m hoping to figure something out soon to at least get our scripture memory happening again!

I’m a little worried about next year and what it will mean to be homeschooling a 1st grader and 4Ker, but am determined to enjoy this time right now because soon enough it will be gone.

There’s been a lot of changes in our lives in the last month or so, and life feels just a tad crazy! And then there’s Christmas just around the corner! I hope everyone has been doing well! Let me know in the comments what your favorite thing about the Christmas season is!
