Scripture Memory Song: Psalm 28:7

Rejoice with us in the magnificent power and protection the Lord provides for us, as seen in Psalm 28:7.

The Lord is my strength and my shield;
	my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
	and with my song I praise him.

Psalm 28:7 (NIV)

Devotional

Today we won’t be grabbing any context verses. I think the verse is long enough on its own :). This verse is a wonderful testimony from King David, though I’m not sure if he was the king at the time he wrote this. Anyway, you can see that he truly trusts in God for everything: strength, protection, help, etc. I get the feeling that David truly believed the message of Philippians 4:13, despite it not having been written yet. 🙂

If you read through the several Old Testament books that talk about David’s life, you truly see a man who trusted in God for everything. He was promised the kingship, which made Saul, the current king, furious with him. Saul chased David all over the place trying to kill him. David also had multiple chances to kill Saul, but instead only gave warnings to Saul saying things along the lines of, “Look Saul. I could have taken your life, but God made you king and it would be wrong for me to kill the one he ordained. Instead I will trust that God will give me the throne in his time.”

That’s trust! Saul was furiously attacking David, but David had compassion on him because David trusted God would work things out the way it was meant to be. David’s trust results in great blessings for him.

Not only did he trust in God in the toughest of times, he leaped for joy and sang praises for the one who gave him everything he has. Trust in God and he will provide everything you need to get through the toughest times. Praise God in everything! Amen.
