Scripture Memory Song: Psalm 117

Praise the Lord, for great is his steadfast love toward us! Come join us today in this Psalm of praise!

If you’re new here, each week we all learn about and memorize a Bible verse together. We’ve put the verse(s) into song to help you learn the verse and recall it during your day. If you’d like to see the archives of all the verses we’ve done so far, you can find our posts here and a list of all the YouTube videos here. On to this week’s verse!

Praise the Lord, all nations!
    Extol him, all peoples!
For great is his steadfast love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord!
Psalm 117 (ESV)

Devotional

Congratulations, you just memorized an entire chapter of the Bible. Yea, Psalm 117 is that short, which is part of the reason we decided to do both verses rather than just one. Anyway, this bit of scripture is all about praise for God. The first verse, and the last sentence are just telling people to give praise, but of course we need a good reason why, and that’s what the rest of this Psalm is about.

  • “great is his steadfast love toward us”
  • “the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever”

That first reason reminds me of last week’s message about God’s relentless pursuit of our hearts. How steadfast is his love? Well, every time you sin and tell God you’re better off without him, he continues to pursue you and try to bring you back to him. That’s steadfast love! I believe that’s a great example of his faithfulness toward us as well. He continues to stick with us, his chosen people, no matter how much we fail, and that faithfulness will continue into eternity! There’s absolutely no chance he’ll stop being faithful and loving to us!

This week, ponder his love and faithfulness and sing praises to him!
